    Memorial Houston Medical Center is a busy, freestanding, multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center located in the heart of Houston.  The center features 5 ORs and performs thousands of cases annually. 


    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The full-time Operating Room Registered Nurse functions as an integral part of the surgical team, under the supervision of a surgeon or other surgical personnel to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.   The OR RN provides professional nursing care to a diverse population with varied and complex needs.  This position communicates and collaborates with the team to facilitate, coordinate and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and achievement of desired treatment outcomes.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Functions independently in the clinical OR RN role as part of the surgical team
    • Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and has the ability to oversee the instrument and equipment set up, prepare for the case utilizing preference cards, and anticipates the needs of surgeon
    • Coordinates and oversees the room during a case as the circulating RN
    • Works collaboratively with other OR teammates in the care of the surgical patient emphasizing patient safety and optimal outcomes throughout the patient’s stay
    • Performs thorough patient interview and assessment in accordance with procedure and assures an appropriate, detailed time out process is done according to policy
    • Consistently reviews charts for completeness, in accordance with documentation protocols prior to and after the surgical procedure. Assures appropriate consent, H/P, diagnostic reports and relevant information are on the chart prior to the start of procedure
    • Relays appropriate hand off communication to PACU staff to ensure continuity of care
    • Participates in the anesthesia time-out process if performed in the pre-op area prior to administration of pre-operative blocks or prior to the induction of anesthesia


    • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
    • Active RN license as required by state of employment or appropriate compact licensure
    • Minimum 2 years experience in an operating room setting; preferably in an ambulatory surgery center
    • Valid BLS, ACLS & PALS
    • CNOR certification preferred
    • BSN preferred
