    Facility Description:

     

    Advocate Surgery Center is a multispecialty surgery center located in Libertyville, Illinois.

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    • The registered nurse provides therapeutic, effective patient/family centered care according to physician order, in compliance with the philosophy of the surgery center, standards of practice and regulations of governing agencies
    • Utilizes specialized nursing knowledge, nursing process and discriminative judgement while giving direct or indirect patient care

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Admits patient according to the facilities policy and procedure, continually assessing the patient and documenting the required information.
    • Completes preoperative teaching to patient and family and initiates postoperative teaching to be completed during the recovery phase
    • Maintains and demonstrates safe medication practices
    • Provides nursing care and appropriate monitoring of the patient according to policy and procedure
    • Communicates relevant patient information to physician, director of nursing, and appropriate personnel
    • Sets priorities to facilitate the flow of patients efficiently
    • Makes preoperative and postoperative patient phone calls
    • Counts narcotics and maintains accurate narcotic log records daily
    • Prepares and restock perioperative area for following day
    • Participates in competency testing and specialty projects

    Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
    • Currently licensed to practice in the state
    • Certification in CPR unless medically unable as documented by a physician
    • Current ACLS certification or obtained within 90 days of employment
    • Current PALS certification or obtained within 90 days of employment
    • Two years related nursing experience in critical care, operating room, PACU, ambulatory care or endoscopy, preferred
    • Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
