    The Surgical Center of Connecticut is a freestanding multi-specialty ambulatory surgery facility open Monday through Friday- NO WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS, or ON-CALL. The center has grown exponentially in the last year adding an orthopedics specialty service line and is looking to complement the existing team with an experienced Preop-PACU RN.

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The Medical Assistant will be responsible for providing quality, professional patient care in a fast-paced outpatient surgical setting. Responsibilities will include clinical and administrative duties delegated by Nurse Manager and staff. The duties of medical assistant shall vary from time to time depending on the surgical specialty and volume of cases.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • All duties will be performed according to state law and scope of practice. Day to day responsibility may include, but not limited to:
    • Assists with patient admissions to the pre-operative area as well as assist the nurse with the care of the post-operative patient through discharge.
      • Assists with patient phone calls on an as needed basis.
      • Ensures care to the appropriate patient through proper identification and checking of chart.
      • Escort patients and family members from waiting area to pre-op and post-op areas.
      • Assist with patient preparation for surgical procedures.
      • Prepare patient areas before, during and after patient arrival and departure, including cleaning of equipment, stocking of supplies.
      • Assists in transferring patients
      • Assists in turning over rooms
    • Communicates effectively with department teammates, physicians and patients to assure continuity of patient care.
    • Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.
    • Administrative duties include answering telephones, greeting patients, and assisting throughout the center as needed.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.


    • High School Diploma required
    • Medical Assistant Certification required
    • 1-year experience in surgery setting preferred
    • BLS certified required
