Hawthorn Surgery Center is a busy, multi-specialty, 5 OR, outpatient surgery center, primarily performing orthopedics, ENT, urology, podiatry and pain management procedures. Our center’s new building opened 4 years ago in Vernon Hills, IL and we are growing at an excitingly rapid pace

We are seeking experienced Full-Time Sterile Processing Technicians who are dependable, detail-oriented, skilled problem solvers that have a collaborative, friendly working style.  The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, correct tray assembly, and sterile processing of all instrumentation used in the operating room.  The candidate must have a working knowledge of regulatory standards for universal precautions, sterilization methodologies, and regulatory standards for biological monitoring.   Hawthorn Surgery Center is pleased to offer a competitive salary and full benefits including 401K with company match.  

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleaning/decontamination of instrumentation and equipment
• Inspects, tests, assembles, packages, and labels operating room instrumentation and trays in preparation for sterilization to ensure that instruments are ready and available for use.
• Sterilizes instruments in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations using various techniques such as steam and/or chemical products (ie: Aldahol, etc.)
• Demonstrates ability to understand and use automated instrument washer and sterilizers.
• Demonstrates ability to understand use, function, interpretation, documentation, and record-keeping of chemical and biological indicators related to instrument sterilization and high-level disinfection.
• Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and
• up-to-date information in accordance with established standards.
• Assists teammates with daily preparation for current and future surgery schedules (pulling cases and assembling supplies/instruments), as assigned.
• Assist with various tasks throughout the departments, as needed and assigned by Charge Nurse

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• 2 Years of Sterile Processing Experience required
• Knowledge of typical OR equipment required
• Orthopedic (Total Joint, Sports Medicine, Hand, Ankle, Spine and Pain Management) surgical experience strongly preferred.
• Certification in Sterile Processing preferred
• Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies including industry principles and practice in sterilization and disinfection required.
• Must be personable, friendly, and exhibit flexibility and positive interpersonal skills
• Ability to be flexible with work schedule and maintain regular attendance
