    Facility Description:

    Advocate Surgery Center is a multispecialty surgery center located in Libertyville, Illinois.


    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The PACU Nurse is responsible for The register nurse provides therapeutic, effective patient/family centered care according to physician order, in compliance with the philosophy of the surgery center, standards of practice and regulations of governing agencies


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Knowledgeable of the mission, philosophy and objectives of the facility.
    • Knowledgeable of the policy and procedure of the facility.
    • Utilize specialized nursing knowledge, nursing process and discriminative judgement while giving direct or indirect patient care.
    • Recognize legal and policy limits of individual practice.
    • Recognize the importance of teamwork.  Utilizes time effectively.
    • Respects patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
    • Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive patient environment.
    • Assesses physical and emotional needs of the patient and implements appropriate nursing interventions.
    • Applies appropriate leadership skills in directing non-professional clinical personnel.
    • Maintains accurate records of controlled substances.
    • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
    • Complies with all administrative, medical and nursing policies and procedures.
    • Reports and completes appropriate forms for Risk Management to patient, visitors and employees.
    • Knowledgeable of and complies with the Infection Control Plan.
    • Receives and documents physician orders.
    • Knowledgeable of medical staff privileges.
    • Competent and responsive to emergency situations (i.e. cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, drug reaction, internal or external disaster etc).
    • Interacts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees in a mature responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional surgery center environment.


    • Has successfully completed the program at an accredited school of nursing with a current state nursing license.
    • At least two (2) to five (5) years of ambulatory surgery nursing is preferred.
    • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS)/Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification. 
    • Successful completion of ACLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
    • Successful completion of PALS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
