    Facility Description:

    MemorialCare Surgical Center Laguna Woods is a multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center located in South Orange County with 4 operating rooms and 1 procedure room.  MCSC Laguna Woods specializes in Orthopedics, Podiatry, GI, Pain, ENT, and Plastic Surgery.  

    Located minutes from Laguna Beach, and close proximity to Southern California’s best beaches, attractions, dining and shopping.  Great location for the outdoor enthusiasts as well.

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while functioning as a member of the surgical team; this individual also prepares and maintains supplies, instruments and equipment related to these procedures. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Surgery Center. Ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and facility administrative procedures.  Participates in various quality activities as appropriate and as directed by the Operating Room Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing, Medical Director and/or the Quality Committee(s).

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Functions as a scrub technician in the operating room/ procedure room under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
    • Assists with care, preparation, maintenance and after-care of sterile and un-sterile supplies and equipment.
    • Knows and practices the principles and procedures of sterile technique.
    • Handles specimens in accordance with facility policy and procedures.
    • Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area for storage or processing.
    • Differentiates sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
    • Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors.
    • Demonstrates ability to understand use, function, interpretation, documentation, and record-keeping of chemical and biological indicators related to instrument and equipment high-level disinfection and sterilization processes.
    • Demonstrates understanding of operating room/procedure room technical equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines, policy and procedures.
    • Assists with stocking, replenishing and preparation of supplies.

    Qualifications

    • High School Graduate or Equivalent
    • Prior experience as an Orthopedic technician preferred
    • Outpatient Orthopedic surgical experience preferred
    • Successful completion of BLS within 90 days of employment or documentation of current certification
    • Certified Surgical Technologist preferred
