    Facility Description:  Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgical Center (WCOSC), the premier destination for state-of-the-art, specialized orthopedic surgical care located in the heart of Danbury, Connecticut.

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the Registered Nurse. The CST performs duties according to scope of practice designated by the facility position description, role and responsibilities and according to the surgical technologist professional organization and certification board.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Prepares surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
    • Hands required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
    • Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
    • Maintains instruments in an organized manner and monitors/tracks instruments counts throughout procedures.
    • Demonstrates expertise in the preparation process for the surgical procedure after consultation with the surgical team as to identified plan of care.
    • Understands and utilizes principles of surgical asepsis.
    • Implements barrier precautions in the decontamination of the surgical suite and equipment post operatively.
    • Functions as a collaborative team member enhancing inter and intradepartmental relationships.
    • Uses high reliability behaviors to provide safe and efficient patient care.
    • Ability to set priorities and utilizes time effectively.


    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Certified Surgical Technologist from NBSTSA
    • Minimum of 2 years of Certified Surgical Technologist experience required; Orthopedic experience preferred.
    • Current BLS certification required.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with operating room staff, patients, their family members and other health care personnel.
