    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Senior Director of Market Strategy, the Director of Market Strategy will be responsible for formulating strategies and processes that assist SCA in planning how to best invest growth capital.  This leader will analyze industry data to identify target markets, formulate the strategy for each market and create a market-differentiated value proposition.  Within identified core markets, s/he will work collaboratively as part of the larger SCA team to identify appropriate high value targets, evaluate economic opportunity, and build consensus on SCA’s approach to the market. 


    To be successful, the Director of Market Strategy will need to work collaboratively with and provide guidance to cross functional teams that will likely include development, operations, sales, and managed care contracting.  S/he will also need to develop functional relationships with Regional Vice Presidents, Development Vice Presidents and Senior Directors, and Managed Care leaders to develop and refine market strategies, bring an analytical and nationally-informed approach to markets, and monitor the team’s success on execution of the plan.


    Key Responsibilities:


    The Director will support strategic long-term planning efforts at the enterprise and group levels, producing qualitative and quantitative analyses of growth opportunities.  Additional enterprise responsibilities will include evaluating:

    • Potential entry to non-prioritized markets and/or emergent enterprise strategies (service lines, etc.)
    • Strategic use of multi-site, or corporate transactions
    • Integration opportunities with other OptumCare and external businesses


    S/he will also be instrumental in leading active strategic market development alongside market-based teams; specifically, influencing value proposition development and opportunity prioritization + execution.  To do so, s/he will be tasked with developing and/or managing a suite of research and data analytics, strategy frameworks, and collaboration methods/cadences that will support: 

    • SCA’s enterprise identification of priority markets
    • Strategic execution for priority markets, including a formulation and codification of our value proposition
    • Network development analysis to be leveraged with CDO, health plan, and health system partners
    • Cross-functional collaboration models and work plans (relative to value proposition development)


    To be successful, the Director will need to nimbly leverage support from teammates within the SCA Development team, as well as subject matter experts throughout SCA’s organization.


    As a leader, s/he will also uphold SCA’s mission, vision, values, and service philosophies, understand and adhere to all compliance, regulatory, and policy requirements.  Importantly, s/he will understand and comply with all relevant company and business unit policies at local, state, and federal levels, while establishing effective internal systems and controls to promote that compliance. 


    Work Experience

    • Strategic planning and business development across various markets
    • Working knowledge of innovative healthcare business models that focus on the quadruple aim
    • Experience in healthcare services, ambulatory care, integrated delivery systems and/or physician practice management
    • Solid foundation of general management principles and strong financial acumen achieved through a minimum of 5+ years’ experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, management, health management or similar field is preferred

    • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
