    Facility Description:

    Santa Cruz Endoscopy Center is a 1 procedure room GI center focused on providing the highest level of care.

    We perform diagnostic upper endoscopy (EGD) and both screening and diagnostic colonoscopy.


    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The Certified Gastroenterology Technologist (GI Tech, Certified) is responsible for the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse. The GI Tech performs duties according to scope of practice designated by the facility position description, role and responsibilities and best practice guidelines established by the gastroenterology professional organization.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Functions as a Certified GI Technologist in the procedure room under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse:
      • Assists other members of the procedure team with gowning, gloving, applying eye protection to perform patient procedures.
      • Assists with the preparation of the procedure room for procedures.
      • Assists with positioning and draping of patients.
      • Assists with care, preparation, maintenance and after-care of supplies and equipment.
      • Knows and practices the principles and procedures of aseptic and sterile technique as applicable.
      • Knows how to pre-clean, disinfect, process and safely store endoscopes according to best practice guidelines, facility policy and under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
      • Participates in procedure validation and TIME OUT processes with the rest of the procedure team.
      • Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, other designated processors.
      • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, Teammates, physicians, other members of the healthcare team, etc.
      • Delivers safe patient care as directed by the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse and according to facility policy and procedure


    • High School Graduate or Equivalent
    • Graduate of a recognized endoscopy technology competency and certification program offered by an accredited college and/or by a recognized industry clinical practice authority
    • Experience as a GI Tech and/or Operating Room Technician (ORT) required
    • Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BCLS certification.
    • Certification is preferred, NOT REQUIRED.
