    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The Manager of Lease Accounting/ Real Estate Administration is responsible for ensuring that all lease transactions are appropriately accounted for in the most efficient manner possible as well as monitoring the relationship and process with the 3rd party real estate administration services provider. A successful candidate will have a passion for process improvement and work well in a team-centric environment.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Maintain effective internal controls around the tracking, accounting, and reporting of lease arrangements including technical GAAP and SEC considerations and impact to the business of changes
    • Ownership of the implementation of ASC 842, Leases
    • Manage the month-end close process as it relates to lease accounting and work closely with other accounting teams throughout the close process
    • Accountable for compliance and efficient and effective design of SOX controls over lease arrangements and related activities
    • Accountable for internal and external audits over the lease activities and reporting.
    • Provides assistance with M&A activities; supports acquisition/divestiture/restructuring related to capital assets and leases, including due diligence and integration oversight.
    •  Manage the relationship with the 3rd party real estate administration services provider to ensure real estate needs (lease agreement expirations, renewals, amendments, rent payments, etc.) are appropriately addressed
    • Manage the day to day activities and professional development/training of direct reports
    • Provide technical expertise to operations teammates; build and maintain strong relationships with facility teammates
    • Work closely with the facilities, supply chain, financial operations, and accounts payable on lease acquisitions
    • As a member of the accounting leadership team, mentors and coaches’ staff through effective application of SCA values and behaviors. Ensure that peers and staff continue in their development and cross training that allows for sound succession planning
    • Create a culture that supports teamwork, continuous improvement and knowledge growth within and across the team
    • Ensure accurate and timely monthly account reconciliations and financial reporting deliverables for all lease-related balance sheet accounts
    • Provide support to financial operations related to ad-hoc questions involving leases and preparation for partnership meetings
    • Preparation of expense budget materials for annual planning cycles
    • Continuously evaluate work flow processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient operations and opportunities for process improvement
    • Evaluate equipment lease agreements and determine capital vs. operating classification in accordance with GAAP
    • Assist Tax department with special projects and tax quarter-end and year-end close
    • Assist in technical accounting and reporting research activities



    Total education, vocational training and experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related discipline required

    • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience with 2+ years of management experience required


    Skills and abilities:

    • Strong GAAP background (fixed asset, lease and general ledger accounting preferred)

    • Process and financial reporting controls experience

    • Strong data/analytical skills

    • Understanding of tax requirements as they relate to leases preferred

    • Supervisory experience; track record of teammate development

    • Experience dealing with external and/or internal auditors

    • Reconciliation experience in a multi-ownership and/or multiple business unit environment


    Proficiency or productivity standards:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, Access

    • Exposure to Real Asset Management/Peoplesoft preferred but not required

    • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Strong oral and written communication skills

    • Independent and self-motivated
