    Facility Description: Greensboro Specialty Surgical Center is a Multi-specialty facility.

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    Assesses, plans, evaluates, and ensures the implementation of the patient’s critical pathway to achieve identified outcomes

    • Assesses patient status on admission and on an ongoing basis
    • Respects patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
    • Implements appropriate standards of care based on assessment data and patients own goals, mutually set with the patient and family
    • Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge
    • Ensures provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner
    • Adheres to all surgery center policies and procedures when providing patient care, including but not limited to cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, and drug reactions
    • Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care
    • Demonstrates ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations
    • Evaluates patient’s progress toward outcome achievement on an ongoing basis
    • Revises plan of care based on change in patient status
    • Documents patient’s progress toward achievement of outcomes
    • Assesses learning needs according patient’s level of understanding and readiness to learn

    Demonstrates continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective

    • Displays an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturity in the assessment, treatment and care provided
    • Appropriately modifies approach to the patient based upon patient age utilizing a developmental perspective
    • Provides appropriate safety interventions as indicated by age and developmental abilities

    Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position, following and remaining in compliance with administrative medical and nursing policies and procedures

    Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up-to-date information in accordance with established standards

    Adheres to established surgery center safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment

    • Demonstrates the competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities
    • Identifies potentially unsafe conditions and notifies manager
    • Completes all teammate and patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by facility policy
    • Practices infection control and standard precaution as instructed or trained
    • Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for department and surgery center

    Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation

    Demonstrates the importance of continuing education to the performance of facility responsibilities and growth of profession

    • Attends and participates in team meetings and in-service programs
    • Demonstrates competency in performing job task and operating equipment on an annual basis
    • Attends professional training seminars related to job development and education

    Participates in the Quality Improvement process and activities including the areas of Safety, Infection Control, Patient Education/Teaching, documentation, adherence to guidelines for cleaning/decontamination of the Operating Room, adherence to guidelines for sterilization of instruments and supplies, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, compliance with OSHA standards and risk management

    • Maintains accurate records of controlled substances 
    • Receives and documents physician orders
    • Knowledgeable about Medical Staff Privileges



    Licenses or Certificates: 

    • Current licensure to practice in North Carolina
    • Current BLS certification
    • Current ACLS certification for full time Nurses within 60 days of completion 

    Education, Vocational Training, and Experience

    • Associate or Bachelor Nursing degree
    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in critical care, telemetry, or emergency room
