    Facility Description:

    The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery (CMIS) is an outpatient surgery center with 4 ORs and 1 procedure room offering advance surgical procedures to patients in a unique patient-focused environment.  CMIS currently offers surgeries in Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, Pain Management, Urology, General Spine Surgery and Orthopedics including complex spine surgery and total joint surgery of the knee, shoulder and hip.  In addition, CMIS has a unique 5 bed Recovery Care Center which allows postoperative stays up to 48 hours.

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The PreOp PACU nurse is primarily responsible to plan and implement patient care.  Monitors and assesses patient’s recovery.  The PreOp PACU nurse reports directly the PACU Manager.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Administers medications as ordered.  Monitors effect and immediately responds to any adverse reaction.
    • Assesses patient progress and ability to move to proper phases of Recovery and discharge patient safely.
    • Assures patient meets discharge criteria prior to discharge.
    • Educates patient and/or family in post-op care. Provides written instructions, assures that instructions are understood, and provides information regarding how to contact the physician post-op.
    • Conducts post-operative telephone call to patient 24 hours after discharge. Immediately notifies anesthesiologist and/or physician of any complications.
    • Documents all required information in patient’s medical record.
    • Willingly accepts and performs all other duties as assigned.


    • Registered Nurse licensed by the State of Illinois
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
    • 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience preferred
    • Basic computer skills
    • Completion of BLS, ACLS, PALS course within 90 days of employment
    • PALS Certification not required for Pool status RN’s
