    Hawthorn Surgery Center is a busy, multi-specialty, 5 OR, outpatient surgery center, primarily performing orthopedics, ENT, urology, podiatry and pain management procedures. Our center’s new building opened 4 years ago in Vernon Hills, IL and we are growing at an excitingly rapid pace.

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    In this managerial position, the Pre-Op/PACU Charge Nurse is responsible for all aspects of nursing care delivery in the within Pre-Op and PACU areas. The Charge Nurse implements and oversees the Quality Improvement Program for Pre-Op/PACU and assesses, plans, implements and coordinates patient care from admission to discharge. The Charge Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of critical pathways and in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the facility.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility.
    • Responsible for day to day staffing needs of department.
    • Participates in patient care when needed.
    • Assumes a leadership role in the provision of quality nursing care for patients.
    • Interviews, selects and retains qualified staff to meet facility needs.
    • Coaches and mentors staff members to higher performance.
    • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, Teammates, physicians, other healthcare workers.
    • Assesses, plans, and evaluates and ensures the implementation of the patients care to achieve identified outcomes and delivers safe patient care according to facility policy and procedure.
    • Oversees and participates on Performance Improvement Committee to facilitate improvement of nursing care and achievement of mission of the facility.
    • Responsible for ongoing quality improvement and risk management for department.
    • Interacts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees and physicians in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional facility environment
    • Assumes responsibility of the DON in his/her absence.




    • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
    • Current Illinois RN licensure
    • Minimum five years of nursing experience required with a minimum of 3+ years in Pre-Op/PACU environment
    • Previous Charge Nurse/managerial experience required
    • BLS, ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of employment
    • Peri-operative certification or Operating Room experience a plus
