    Facility Description:

     

    Midwest Center for Day Surgery is located on the campus of Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.  Serving surgeons and their patients since 1986, the facility features five operating rooms and a minor procedure room.  The facility is accredited by the The Joint Commission, is an approved provider in the Medicare program and is licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health.  Anesthesia services are furnished by the anesthesiologists affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital as well as an anesthesiologist who works solely at Midwest Center for Day Surgery,

    Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    The role of the perioperative nurse or operating room (OR) nurse is to provide care for patients before, during and after surgery. Operating Room nursing job duties also include patient education, circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse. 

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assess status and needs of surgical patients.
    • Function intra-operatively as scrub, circulator and assistant in all specialty areas.
    • Monitor all activities within the operating room.
    • Have knowledge of functions, performance and troubleshooting of all equipment and instruments.
    • Clean and disinfect operating rooms between cases.
    • Assist with patient transport.
    • Provide a comprehensive report on patients' status to recovery nurse when transferring patient from operating room.
    • Work cooperatively and effectively with other clinical and business office staff, surgeons and anesthesiologists.
    • Provide accurate and complete medical record documentation.
    • Provide intra-operative patient education.
    • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients.
    • Pick correct supplies for next days' cases.
    • Maintain appropriate levels of supply inventory in operating rooms.
    • When assigned, maintain appropriate levels of drug/medication inventory.
    • When assigned, maintain appropriate supply levels particular to surgical specialties.
    • Assist instrument technologist when necessary.
    • Participate in orientation of new staff members.

     

    Qualifications

    • Current licensure in State of Illinois.
    • Certification in Basic Life Support.
    • 2 years OR experience. 
    • Preferred:
    • CNOR certification.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • Experience with all patient age groups.
