    Naperville Surgical Center, a freestanding ambulatory surgery facility, is owned by DuPage Medical Group, Surgical Care Affiliates, Inc. and Advocate Network Services (an affiliate of Advocate Health Care).     Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    We have a need for an Operating  Room Circulator with a minimum of 1 year of OR experience.  We are looking for full time or per diem.



    • The circulating nurse is primarily responsible to advocate for safe patient care during their time spent in the operating room.
    • The circulator prepares the surgical suite for scheduled cases, reviewing the surgeon preference cards and assuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are gathered and ready for the procedures along with other members of the team.
    • Works closely with all other departments in the center for ease of flow.
    • Other duties include assisting anesthesia during induction and emergence from anesthesia, safe positioning of patients based on the needs of the physician and patient, prepping, counting of sharps and sponges, controlling the flow of traffic in the room, accurate documentation of the procedure, implants and charges.
    • The circulator acts as the liaison to all of the pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative team members, as well as patients and family members.  The position is responsible for providing efficient and effective patient care and achievement of desired patient outcomes. 
    • Ensuring the efficient and cost-effective use of departmental resources necessary to provide safety quality care to our patients and physicians.
    • Ensure safe patient care within the peri-op unit. Ensuring that proper patient identification, time outs, resources, and supplies are available to maintain a safe environment. 
    • Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting, mentoring, and orientation when appropriate. Serves as a positive, clinical role model to facilitate staff development, providing pertinent feedback to manager or designee.
    • Keeps the surgical area clean and organized for the surgical team; .
    • Assist in room turnover process and that the surgical set up is sterile and safe for the patient. Ensuring that the goals of the unit are met and maintained to provide for best possible  room utilization.
    • Maintains environment and supply inventory, including assuring the procurement of necessary supplies, equipment and expertise, and the timely delivery of needed care, and alerting administration of these needs in a timely manner.
    • Prepares the patient for the procedure and handles the preparation for the operating room including educating the patient before the surgery takes place and participates in patient handoff during times of transition.
    • Is engaged in helping to ensure that OR metrics, process improvement, work processes, providing solutions and actions plans to reach departmental metrics and goals.
    • Assesses the patient’s condition before a surgical procedure and works with a physician to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery.


    • Associates degree in nursing from an accredited required, a bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
    • Current RN licensure in the state of Illinois required
    • Minimum one year of nursing experience in acute OR setting
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred
    • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
