Facility Description:

Hawthorn Surgery Center is a busy, multi-specialty, 5 OR, outpatient surgery center, primarily performing orthopedics, ENT, urology, podiatry and pain management procedures. Our center’s new building opened 4 years ago in Vernon Hills, IL and we are growing at an excitingly rapid pace. 

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

PRE-OP and PACU Nurses - Are you tired of working holidays, weekends and being on call? We are seeking Full-time and Part-time PRE-OP and PACU Nurses who are flexible, dependable, detail-oriented, skilled problem solvers, who exhibit a collaborative and friendly working style. The PREOP/PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from pre-admission to discharge.  Hawthorn Surgery Center is pleased to offer competitive benefits and pay for experienced candidates.   


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the success of patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and to provide safe, quality healthcare.
  • Assesses physical and emotional needs of the patient and implements appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Admits and prepares patients for surgery.
  • Provides assistance to the anesthesiologist when administering nerve blocks.
  • Receives patients in PACU.  Assessment of the patient’s status and provide appropriate care.
  • Reviews postoperative discharge instructions with the patient and/or family member.
  • Demonstrates safe medication practices.
  • Sets priorities to facilitate the flow of patients efficiently.
  • Makes preoperative and postoperative patient phone calls.
  • Prepares and restock department for the following day.
  • Competent and responsive to emergency situations.

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Current Illinois Nursing License
  • At least 1 year of hospital experience; Med/Surg, Pre-Op/PACU, Orthopedic or Critical Care nursing experience preferred
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Current ACLS Certification or completion within 90 days of employment.
