Facility Description:


Hays Surgery Center is conveniently located twenty minutes from downtown Austin directly off I-35 in Kyle, TX.  We have five operating rooms and specialize in the following areas of practice:


  • Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Orthopedics
  • Ortho-Spine
  • Pain Management
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Podiatry
  • Urology


Our facility is open Mon-Fri- no nights, weekends, or holidays. We proudly offer a full-time schedule with daytime flexibility between cases. Our staff enjoy a healthy work-life balance.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

The Preop/PACU Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The Pre-Op/PACU RN is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of critical pathways and in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the facility. Our teammates participate in quality improvement activities, best practice initiatives, and education offerings to ensure that we are on the cutting edge of the latest innovations in perioperative care. We promote a team environment and a participative leadership philosophy. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a friendly, positive and caring attitude with all patients, physicians and staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of perioperative factors that alter immediate postoperative phase.
  • Appropriately document patient care provided.
  • Attend continuing education offerings
  • Identify actual and potential risks to patients and others. Act to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety in the facility.
  • Admit and prepare patients for surgery including perform nursing assessment of patient, start IV and ordered medications.
  • Provide ongoing information to the patient and his/her caregiver to assure that they understand all procedures and feel as comfortable as possible.
  • Receive patient in the recovery room after surgery. Assess and evaluate the patient. Continuously monitor the patient during his recovery phase.  Document the status of the patient and the care provided.
  • Perform follow up patient assessment by calling the patient the day after surgery.
  • Participate in various quality and safety initiatives within the facility.



  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required. BSN highly preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas
  • Minimum of 1-year acute care nursing preferred.
  • Pediatric nursing experience preferred; must be comfortable with pediatric patients
  • BLS required. ACLS and PALS within 90 days of hire.
