Accountabilities / Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist (ST) is responsible for the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the Registered Nurse. The ST performs duties according to scope of practice designated by the facility position description, role and responsibilities and according to the surgical technologist professional organization.

  1. Ability to correlate clinical data with patient’s care under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
  2. Ability to set priorities.
  3. Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility.
  4. Ability to communicate well with patients, families, Teammates, physicians, other members of the healthcare team, etc.
  5. Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.

Clinical Quality:

  1. Delivers safe patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse and according to facility policy and procedure.
  2. Demonstrates ability to meet patients and family's learning needs as identified in the plan of care under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
  3. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.
  4. Functions as a certified/non certified scrub technician in the operating room/ procedure room under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Exhibits Teamwork/Accountability/Integrity:

  1. Utilizes time effectively.
  2. Follows established facility policies and procedures with regard to attendance.
  3. Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
  4. Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  5. Assists with housekeeping tasks as necessary to provide a safe environment for patients, teammates, physicians, guests.
  6. Performs all other duties as assigned by manager.


  • Graduate of a recognized and accredited Operating Room Technician Program, High School Graduate or Equivalent. Prior Experience as an ORT preferred. 
  • Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BCLS certification. 
  • Certification is preferred.
