Facility Description: Hawthorn Surgery Center is a busy, multi-specialty, 5 OR, outpatient surgery center, primarily performing orthopedics, ENT, urology, podiatry and pain management procedures. Our center’s new building opened 4 years ago in Vernon Hills, IL and we are growing at an excitingly rapid pace.  We are looking for a positive, energetic, experienced Operating Room Surgical Technologist with a proven track record of delivery excellent service to physicians, patients, and other teammates. Accountabilities / Responsibilities

We are seeking experienced Operating Room Surgical Technologists who are dependable, detail-oriented, skilled problem solvers, who have a collaborative and friendly working style.  Qualified candidates must have a reputation of delivering superior service to physicians, patients, and teammates.  Candidates must exemplify our organization’s values of Clinical Quality, Integrity, Service Excellence, Teamwork, Accountability, and Continuous Improvement.  The OR ST/CST (preferred) is responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient care of the patient in the operating room, and must demonstrate competence and adherence to the various professional organization’s standards, as well as the center’s policies and procedures.   

  • Adheres to all facility policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that the Operating Room is prepared with all necessary supplies, implants, instrumentation, and equipment, in accordance with the physician’s preference card.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon throughout the surgical procedure.
  • Performs a proper surgical scrub and appropriately dons OR attire and PPE.
  • Performs initial, closing, and final sharps and sponge counts with circulating nurse.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, teammates, and physicians to ensure continuity of care.
  • Responsible for other tasks such as picking supplies for cases, turning over rooms, stocking, etc., as directed by the OR Charge Nurse.
  • Assists other licensed independent personnel with gowning and gloving.


  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Surgical Technology
  • Certification Preferred
  • Two years of OR Experience; Orthopedic experience preferred
  • Current BLS Certification or completion within 90 days of employment
