Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Our growing surgical center is seeking skilled Post Anesthesia Care (PACU) Registered Nurses and Preoperative Registered Nurses for our Ambulatory Surgery Center. We offer PRN (As needed), Part-time, Part-time with Benefits and Full-Time with Benefits positions.

 

Overview:

 

The PACU/PreOp Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge.  The Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of critical pathways and in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the facility. Our healthcare teammates are dedicated to exceeding the expectations of our patients while meeting their individualized health and perioperative needs in collaboration with our physicians and facility administrative procedures.  Our teammates participate in Quality activities, Best Practice Initiatives, and education offerings to ensure that they are on the cutting edge of the latest innovations in perioperative care.  We promote a team environment through a shared governance model with a multi-disciplinary approach. Our Nurses serve as a resource to the healthcare team for complex decision making and they are committed to establishing individualized plans of care for the patient undergoing perioperative care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

The PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse:

 

  • Uses the nursing process including: assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in order to provide safe effective outcomes
  • Administers and charts medications as ordered by the physician, reinforces and clarifies physician instructions and explanation of procedures to patient and companion.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for a Registered Nurse position in Perioperative Services. This would include patient care duties, including the ability to provide for patient care in emergency situations and based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.
  • Maintains and evaluates their own clinical expertise and clinical practice, demonstrates the importance of continuing education to the performance of facility responsibilities and professional growth.
  • Conducts quality review audits as assigned by the manager or designee, conscientiously and continuously applies the principles and tolls learned during CQI training on a daily basis.
  • Maintains flexibility with scheduling and job assignments in order to cover patient needs.  Ability to work in multiple perioperative areas.
  • Fosters a positive and professional ambulatory surgery center environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner and by participating as a team member.  Must have an award-winning smile and personality with an unrequited commitment to clinical excellence and outcomes.
  • Participates in committees, work groups and meetings as deemed necessary.  Consistently demonstrates results and the achievement of target dates. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and takes part in shared leadership.
  • Successfully completes competencies required of the position, obtains laboratory, EKG, radiology studies requested by physician according to policy.

Qualifications

Education – Required:

  • Associates degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited university, college or school. 
  • Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or compact license agreement. 

Skills – Required:

  • Exceptional Clinical Skills
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS/PALS Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Basic computer literacy to include proficiency in the following skills:
  • Send and Receive Company Email
  • Access and chart by electronic methods
  • Electronic collection, analysis and tracking of data
  • Create basic Word Processing Documents 

Education - Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or another related field
  • ACLS/PALS Certification 

Experience:

  • Previous work experience in an ambulatory care surgical setting or acute care hospital PACU or PreOP OR
  • Previous work experience in an acute care hospital Critical Care setting
