Facility Description:

 

Texas Health Surgery Center is a busy multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center located in far north Dallas.  The Center is newly renovated with 5 operating rooms.  Specialties include Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Pain Management, ENT and Ophthalmology.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

The Instrument Processing Technician is responsible for maintaining instruments and equipment in an optimal fashion and preparing instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies for the surgical patient. The Instrument Processing Technician is responsible to assist with the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the clinical leader. The Instrument Processing Technician performs duties according to scope of practice designated by the facility position description, role and responsibilities and under the direction of the designated clinical leader. Must  demonstrate  experience in the sterilization processes of decontamination, assembly, sterilization and storage.

 

  • Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
  • Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas
  • Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
  • Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas
  • Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies including industry standardized principles and practice in sterilization and disinfection required.
  • Prior experience in instrument processing preferred.
  • Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment required or documentation of current BCLS certification.
  • Certification in instrument processing required.
