The SCALE (SCA Leadership Excellence) General Manager (GM) program is a 12- to 18-month program at one of the largest providers of Outpatient Surgery in the United States. Based in Deerfield, Illinois, SCA, a leader in the outpatient surgery industry, strategically partners with health plans, medical groups and health systems across the country to develop and optimize surgical facilities. Accountabilities / Responsibilities

We’re looking for the next generation of growth-minded and entrepreneurial leaders to help sustain our incredible growth, while tackling the triple aim of healthcare. The SCA Leadership Excellence program provides the candidate with an unparalleled learning platform to understand how to truly manage a fast-growing and complex business and is designed to be a comprehensive, cohort-based experience that provides insight into the Operations, Strategy, and Development practices that make SCA a market-leader in ambulatory surgical services. At the culmination of the program, candidates are placed in leadership (Director) positions that align with demonstrated competencies that enable the future growth of SCA. Examples of final placements include:


  • Director of Operations: Regional lead responsible for P&L, health partner relationships, overall performance of surgery centers, and the growth and development of a region
  • Director of Strategy: Corporate service lead responsible for identifying short- and long-term growth opportunities, gaining executive buy-in, and implementing strategic programs across the country
  • Director of Corporate Development: Regional lead responsible for market level acquisition strategy and deal execution

Program Overview


SCALE GMs will engage in up to 4 rotations each lasting 3-4 months. During each rotation, SCALE GMs will gain hands-on experience leading surgery center operations and/or leading market specific strategic projects. Potential rotations include:


  • Act as a facility CEO
  • Close performance gap at an underachieving facility
  • Lead introduction of a new clinical service line and facilitate market pull-through
  • Manage the development of a new surgery center from proof of concept through design, construction, and physician syndication
  • Partner with Managed Care and Operations to design a corporate-wide program that drives pull-through in payment innovation models


The program location is flexible and may be based out of the Deerfield corporate office or any of SCA’s four satellite offices in Birmingham, Dallas, Pasadena, or Stamford. Placement will be based on geographic preference and organization need.
